Works that need approval
From 1 July 2022, the Regulatory and assurance framework for local water utilities PDF, 1100.53 KB applies to local water utilities in regional NSW.
The new approach to assessment and approvals of works (under section 60 of the Local Government Act 1993 or section 292(1) of the Water Management Act 2000) is fully implemented from 1 July 2022.
Under Section 60 of the Local Government Act 1993, utilities are required to obtain approval for water supply and sewerage works including water recycling schemes. The department’s approach to assessing and approving works is outlined in the Regulatory framework for local water utilities PDF, 1100.53 KB.
The table below gives a list of works that need approval under section 60 of the Local Government Act or section 292(1)(a) of the Water Management Act. More guidance about works that need approval is available in our guidance document Applying for water treatment and sewerage works PDF, 1004.25 KB.
