We work in partnership with local water utilities in regional NSW to manage town water supplies during droughts. In NSW, local water utilities are responsible for water supply to country towns and villages including imposing restrictions to maintain essential supplies during droughts.
The department strongly encourages local water utilities to prepare and implement a drought and emergency management plan as part of their Integrated Water Cycle Management (IWCM) strategy.
When a town’s supplies are threatened by drought or blue-green algae outbreaks, the NSW Government will help local water utilities maintain a basic supply to their consumers. The department will provide technical assistance to local water utilities and will assist them in applying for financial assistance from the Government.
