Water recovery programs

Water recovery projects can provide additional water for productive and environmental purposes. The volumes of water saved are in addition to water provided for water users and the environment through the rules in the water sharing plans.

The department is involved in a number of major water recovery programs and initiatives across NSW.

    Cap & Pipe the Bores Program

    The Cap and Pipe the Bores program is part of the Great Artesian Basin Sustainability Initiative (GABSI), jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments.

    Sustainable diversion limit adjustment mechanism

    Aim to use water for the environment more efficiently, leaving more water in the system for industry and communities to use.

    Basin Pipe Project

    This project aims to minimise water waste by installing new water efficient pumps, pipes, tanks and troughs.
