Types of licences
There are 4 types of licences under the Water Management Act 2000 and Water Act 1912.

Water access licences
In water sharing plan areas, water access licences authorise the taking of water from a water source, such as a river, lake or aquifer.

Drillers licences
To construct a water bore you need a driller’s licence.

Corporate licences
Irrigation corporations supply water under an operating licence.

Water Act 1912 licences
Outside water sharing plan areas, licence requirements under the Water Act 1912 apply.
