In response to the first activation of the new Barwon-Darling ‘resumption of flows’ rule in January 2021, stakeholders asked for an examination of the department’s implementation of the rule, and also the newly implemented individual daily extraction components (IDECs) and active management. The department commissioned an independent review into how well the new rules were implemented and what improvements can be made. Greg Claydon delivered the review in September 2021:
- Independent assessment of the initial implementation of the resumption of flows rule, IDECs and active management in the Barwon-Darling: 01 December, 2020 to 31 March, 2021 – by the independent reviewer, Greg Claydon (PDF, 1511.72 KB)
WaterNSW also published a report of the January 2021 event which activated the ‘resumption of flows’ rule in the Barwon-Darling on their website.
Claydon Review Recommendations Implementation Project
After the Claydon Review was delivered, the department established the Claydon Review Recommendations Implementation Project (the project). The project has now progressed to the end of Phase 1. An update on the progress as of July 2022 is provided below:
A final implementation report will be prepared after Phase 2 and published in December 2022, detailing all responses to the recommendations and the work completed to address them. The report will build on the current progress update.
