Greyhound Racing Regulation 2019

The NSW Government is committed to an ethical and sustainable greyhound racing industry based on high standards of animal welfare.

As part of the Government’s industry reform, the Office of Racing publically consulted on the draft Greyhound Racing Regulation 2019. Feedback closed on Friday 19 July 2019 and we are currently reviewing submissions and finalising the Regulation. Sign up to be notified when the Regulation is published.

The purpose of the Regulation is to support the intended operation of the Greyhound Racing Act 2017, consistent with the recommendations of the Greyhound Industry Reform Panel.

Background

The purpose of the Greyhound Racing Regulation 2019 is to support the intended operation of the Greyhound Racing Act 2017, consistent with the recommendations of the Greyhound Industry Reform Panel.

Together with the Act, the new Regulation will facilitate the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission’s implementation of an enhanced registration framework. It will also set out annual reporting requirements for the Commission and Greyhound Racing NSW, as well as penalty infringement notice amounts for offences under the Act.

Before the proposed Regulation can be made law, a formal consultation process took  place in line with requirements under the Subordinate Legislation Act 1989.

To support the consultation, a Regulatory Impact Statement explaining the proposed Regulation and its costs and benefits, and a draft of the Regulation itself, were published.
