Plan of Management for Crown land at Goulburn Recreation Area

About 44 hectares of prime community land will serve as a valuable sporting, recreation and tourism asset following Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s adoption of a Plan of Management for the Goulburn Recreation Area.
The plan sets out the future planning and management of the precinct, ensuring continued provision of sporting, leisure, tourism, agricultural services and events at the Recreation Area.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said adoption of the Plan of Management will ensure local Crown land best services local community groups.
“The Goulburn Recreation Area is a unique multi-use facility used for activities from hockey, basketball and netball to harness and greyhound racing, the annual Goulburn Show, rodeos, dog obedience training and other community and cultural events,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
NSW councils are required to complete Plans of Management for council-managed Crown community land under the Crown Land Management Act 2016 and in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993.
Plans of Management guide the use and management of community land, including the issuing of lease and licence tenures over land.
They outline what the community values about reserves, their current and future uses, and how they will be maintained and improved.
Goulburn Mayor Bob Kirk welcomed the plan’s adoption and thanked residents and user groups of the Recreation Area for their input.
“We have 24 very different user groups who are based out of the Goulburn Recreation Area, and I’d like to thank them for coming through this process with an open mind, looking to work together for the community,” said Mayor Kirk.
“The plan allows us to move forward with a united vision for the Recreation Area, based on using Crown land to support our community as resilient, sustainable and prosperous.”
Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said the Plan of Management is an important document as it ensures appropriate management and use of Crown land so that it can deliver economic, social and health benefits.
Goulburn Recreation Area will focus on a number of initiatives that benefit the region including:
- seeking commercial opportunities
- supporting tourism activities at the showground
- increasing investment by promoting the Goulburn Recreation Area as a regional sporting, recreational and community centre
- increase security of tenure for leaseholders to promote investment
- strengthen and support community and environmental resilience and develop the GRA as a place of emergency refuge for the community
- investigate and develop ways to reduce utility costs
- sustain the Goulburn Recreation Area as a community hub and promote multi-use.
