Have your say on draft Greyhound Racing Regulation

Media release | 26 June 2019

The NSW Government is undertaking public consultation on a new regulation to implement the next stage of its greyhound reforms to ensure high standards of integrity and animal welfare across the industry.

Everyone with an interest in the sport is encouraged to have their say on the draft Greyhound Racing Regulation 2019.

This regulation forms a key part of the NSW Government’s reforms for an ethical and sustainable greyhound industry.

It will support the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission’s (GWIC) new registration framework for greyhounds, industry participants and trial tracks, consistent with recommendations of the Greyhound Industry Reform Panel.

The regulation will also cover issues such as annual reporting requirements for GWIC and Greyhound Racing NSW, and penalty infringement notice amounts for offences under existing greyhound racing legislation.

The Government is inviting feedback from the wider community and industry stakeholders. This will be considered in the drafting of the final regulation before it becomes law.

Under the Government’s reforms, GWIC, which began operating on 1 July last year, has been given wide-ranging powers to regulate the industry.

The public consultation period for the draft regulation runs from Wednesday 26 June to Friday 19 July.
