Sofiri to shake up international education

Parramatta-based business Sofiri is out to shake up the international education sector with a new online service linking aspiring students with education experts to help them study abroad.

Sofiri received a $25,000 Minimum Viable Product (MVP) grant from the NSW Government-backed Jobs for NSW to develop its peer-to-peer platform and has already signed up 40 education providers and 80 experts to the project.

Sofiri founder and CEO George Hernandez said the company’s platform is designed to be used by students seeking to apply for university, vocational education, or English courses.

"Sofiri is free and can be used from any location - our education experts can be contacted by phone, email, Skype or social media,” Mr Hernandez said.

“Experts can advise students on courses and course providers as well as the best cities to study in based on their preferences.

“Sofiri is for people who are considering study away from their home country. There is big potential for this because there is a lot of traditional thinking in this space and I believe there is a real need for a shake-up.

"The Minimum Viable Product grant from Jobs for NSW is helping us finalise our product. Currently the system works on an internet browser and is mobile responsive but we need to work on a mobile phone app,” Mr Hernandez said.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Small Business John Barilaro said Jobs for NSW is helping some of the state’s brightest business minds get their ideas into market.
