NSW Defence targets ASEAN markets at DSA 2018

Nine NSW defence industry companies will form part of a Team Defence Australia mission attending one of the world’s top defence trade shows – Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2018 – from 16-19 April in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

NSW Minister for Trade and Industry Niall Blair said NSW defence industry attendance at DSA 2018 is aligned with a NSW Government focus on expanding exports to fast-growing ASEAN markets.

“This trade show is a terrific follow-up opportunity to support NSW businesses in the international market following my visit to Malaysia in October 2017 and to the region in February 2018.

“It demonstrates the NSW Government’s commitment to supporting businesses to access ASEAN markets and also leverage the ASEAN Conference that was held in March in Sydney.”

Director of Defence NSW, retired Commodore Peter Scott, CSC, will attend DSA 2018 to support the NSW exhibitors.

He said initiatives from the Commonwealth’s recently launched Defence Export Strategy would support sustainable, technologically advanced and globally competitive defence industries from NSW.

“The export strategy increases support for the highly successful Team Defence Australia trade missions, expands the Global Supply Chain program and increases support to SMEs to become export ready.”

Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of NSW unmanned systems manufacturer JAR Aerospace, Lachlan Burke, said the company wasn’t currently exporting but was looking to create new opportunities through its attendance at the show.

“It will offer us exposure and promote awareness of our products, including our Multi Rotor X12 unmanned aerial drone which is a product with global potential to greatly increase the safety of military personnel when on patrol.”

DSA 2018 will feature around 1,500 companies from 60 countries, attracting 43,000 trade visitors.

The NSW Government - through its Defence and Industry strategy, Strong, Smart and Connected - is committed to helping defence industry access global opportunities.
