Incubator beckons tech companies to India

Media release | 10 September 2018

The NSW Government in partnership with innovation consultancy Fusion Labs is offering NSW technology start-ups and scale-ups a fantastic opportunity to grow their business in the Indian market through a 12 month incubator program.

“India is one of the world’s most dynamic, fast paced and quickly-developing technology markets,” Executive Director of Industry, Trade and Investment Kylie Bell said.

As announced by the Premier during her trip to India in April, the NSW Government has prioritised stronger engagement with India’s technology sector through a two-year, $1.58 million commitment that will boost the State’s start-up, technology and advanced manufacturing sectors.

In June the NSW Government supported eight fintech start-ups to participate in a business development program in India, and it is now following up on that success with yet another initiative to help NSW entrepreneurs connect with and do business in the Indian market.

The Fusion Labs Access India Program is a cornerstone initiative of the India-NSW technology partnership that will see up to 10 high growth companies, ideally from the Agtech, Cleantech and Socialtech sectors, provided with the know-how for testing and launching their product into the Indian market.

Fusion Labs CEO Matt Adendorff said over the next few years, India will need more of the things NSW is well placed to provide, including agricultural technologies, innovations in energy markets, health services and efficiencies across the food and water supply chains.

“Through our Fusion Labs Access India Program we’ll provide NSW entrepreneurs a pathway to access the Indian market through mentoring, business development support as well as guidance in navigating international markets and taking businesses global."

Successful applicants will receive 12 months free mentoring both in NSW and India; space at Fishburners incubator in Sydney; business and product advice; full access to Fusion’s expertise; heavily subsidised travel to India to undertake workshops; product and solution testing; and a chance to explore commercial market opportunities.
