NSW Government announces racing appointments
Media release | 19 December 2017
The NSW Government has appointed George Souris to the board of Racing NSW for four years, with current board member Kevin Greene reappointed for a further year.
Minister for Racing Paul Toole has also announced that David Armati has been reappointed for three years as the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal, with barrister Sally Dowling SC appointed as an acting Tribunal, joining Mr Edward Selwyn OAM.
“We are fortunate to have attracted such high calibre people to these important appointments in the NSW racing industry,” Mr Toole said.
“As a former NSW Minister for Racing, Mr Souris brings a wealth of racing knowledge and experience to the Racing NSW board. Mr Greene also served as Minister for Racing in the previous Labor Government.
“I thank outgoing Racing NSW board member Carole Molyneux-Richards for her service over the past three years.”
Mr Armati, who has served as the Racing Appeals Tribunal since 2011, is a former magistrate and the current deputy chair of the NSW Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority.
Ms Dowling is Deputy Senior Crown Prosecutor and head of the Criminal Appeals Unit at the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“Mr Armati has positioned the tribunal as a respected, efficient and accessible merits review body and Ms Dowling brings outstanding legal skills and experience to help deliver industry integrity and efficient administrative justice,” Mr Toole said.
“The Racing Appeals Tribunal hears appeals by racing participants aggrieved by certain decisions made by authorities from the three racing codes.
“Giving people who face disciplinary action the right to an independent review promotes fairness and integrity of our racing codes.”
