The NSW Government is promoting the state’s defence and aerospace capabilities at the Avalon International Aerospace and Defence Exposition from 28 February to 5 March.
NSW Defence Advocate Air Marshal (Ret) John Harvey AM said the biennial event is the largest aerospace exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere.
“NSW has the economic strength, industry capability and workforce skills to meet current and future defence project needs and we will be at Avalon to champion those strengths along with a range of NSW exhibitors,” Mr Harvey said.
“Under the NSW Government’s new Defence and Industry Strategy - NSW: Strong, Smart and Connected – we are committed to growing NSW defence and aerospace industries to promote jobs, investment and innovation.
“This includes growing our defence industries in Sydney and in regional locations like the Hunter, Illawarra and Shoalhaven where we have significant industry capabilities.
“We are also committed to supporting Defence to achieve its objectives and working with the other states to achieve a truly national approach and outcomes.”
The NSW Government is also working towards developing an integrated plan for an aerospace and defence precinct around the planned Badgerys’s Creek airport in Western Sydney.
“Under the NSW Defence and Industry Strategy we are helping SMEs access more local and global supply chain opportunities,” Mr Harvey said.
“For example we will target major defence projects for NSW through coordinated campaigns including the Joint Strike Fighter (AIR6000) and the Air Force’s Future Battle Management System (AIR6500).
“With growing defence opportunities in the Asia Pacific and with the Commonwealth expected to invest $195 billion in Defence over the next decade, now is the time to be focused on developing and capturing new defence industry growth opportunities.”
