Media release | 6 June 2017

A star-studded judging panel has selected the six finalists who will contend for the top honours at the 2017 NSW Creative Achievement Awards in Sydney on 14 June.

Minister for Trade and Industry Niall Blair said the Awards, to be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, are a NSW Government initiative to celebrate and reward outstanding achievers who help to raise the global profile of NSW creative industries.

“I am proud to announce this year’s finalists chosen by an impressive judging panel. I look forward to hearing their selections for the 2017 NSW Creative Laureate and NSW Emerging Creative Talent awards on 14 June.

“NSW is the capital of Australia’s creative industries which are big business in our state employing some 200,000 people, more than 42 per cent of the nation’s creative workforce.

“Our Judging Panel this year – which comprised of Carriageworks Director Lisa Havilah (Chair) and past winner of the Laureate, actor/producer Claudia Karvan, MCA Chair Simon Mordant AM, Dinosaur Designs Founders Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy and Manager of the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery Stephen Payne had an incredibly tough job selecting finalists,” he said.

Mr Blair said this year’s finalists are drawn from across the State’s diverse creative sectors including arts, fashion, design, animation, screen and the built environment.

“Of the six finalists for this year’s Awards three are in the running to become the NSW Creative Laureate and three will contend for the $15,000 NSW Emerging Creative Talent award,” he said.
