Dr Stepan Kerkyasharian AO, Chair of the Board of Cemeteries and Crematoria NSW (CCNSW) has today welcomed the appointment of a new CEO, Sarah Lees.

Dr Kerkyasharin said Mrs Lees will help to drive the Government’s cemetery reform agenda, ensuring current and future generations have equitable access to internment services in NSW.

“Mrs Lees comes with an impressive background in local and state government management roles,” Dr Kerkyasharin said.

“She has working in a number of community focused roles, having spent time previously in Community Services Manager roles with Wollondilly Shire Council and at Eurobodalla Shire Council.

“Most recently, Mrs Lees has been working with the Office of Local Government as Director of Business Improvement and I’m confident CCNSW will benefit from her significant experience.”

Dr Kerkyasharin said the Board was looking forward to working with Mrs Lees to ensure ongoing delivery of the 2015-2020 CCNSW Strategic Plan.

“Mrs Lees joins CCNSW at an important time, as work presses ahead in 2017 to meet ongoing challenges and ensure the communities of NSW have respectful, accessible, consistent and affordable burial and cremation services,” he said.

Sarah Lees said she was excited to be a part of an organisation providing such a critical service to the people of NSW.

“Since passing the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2013 the Government has demonstrated it is committed to respectful and accessible interment services for all members of the community.

“By working with the industry and our community in a collaborative and constructive way, I believe CCNSW can continue to deliver on its vision for sustainable and culturally appropriate interment services for the people of NSW,” she said.
