Central West chocolate maker set to be a star at Fine Foods

Becoming a chocolate maker is something most of us dream about, and for Matt Chimenti, that dream has become reality.
After a downturn in the mining industry, he swapped mining tools in favour of chocolate bars and now produces organic chocolate under the banner of Origin Chocolate.
“I enjoy any artisan crafts like beer, wine and cheese so I thought why not add chocolate to the mix,” Matt said.
Origin Chocolate is one of 16 NSW food businesses selected to showcase their products to thousands of national and international buyers at the Fine Food Australia event in Sydney later this year.
NSW Minister for Trade and Industry, Niall Blair said Matt’s products are what fine regional produce is all about.
“It was great to see first-hand how Matt develops his chocolate – he combines the best of NSW with the best from around the world to develop a delicious product.
“I couldn’t stop at one piece, and I can’t wait for visitors from around Australia and the world to try his amazing chocolate.
“It’s easy to see why Matt has experienced a growth in sales of 233 per cent from 2015-2016 and more than doubled his points of distribution.
“NSW has a global reputation for fresh and delicious food and the State Government’s 'Flavours of NSW” stand at Fine Food Australia this year will showcase some of our state’s best produce.”
Matt has worked in food production for 15 years, owning and operating a café and bakery before establishing Origin Chocolate in January 2014.
“I want to give the customer the true chocolate experience, that is, natural, healthy chocolate or what I call guilt-free pleasure,” Mr Chimenti said. “Origin is a bean-to-bar chocolate maker and all our chocolate is made from organic cocoa and organic cane sugar.
We source Origin’s cacao beans from organic, fair trade or certified Rain Forest Alliance producers.
The Fine Food Show will take place at the International Convention Centre in Sydney from 11-14 September.
