The second day of the Asia Pacific’s largest business technology exhibition, CeBIT Australia, got off to a busy start in Sydney with the NSW Government hosting a visiting technology trade delegation from the United Kingdom.

The delegation included 16 UK companies and the UK Department for International Trade who were welcomed at a networking event on the NSW stand by Director of International Trade Peter Mackey.

The UK delegation was introduced to NSW exhibitors to promote discussion on potential technology business and investment opportunities, with UK Department for International Trade technology trade advisor Nicola Penfold saying Australia offered great talent and a tech savvy marketplace.

“We are delighted to be able to meet decision-makers in the sector to facilitate and encourage long-term business partnerships,” Ms Penfold said. “There are a lot of synergies between our two countries in the startup space and I have to say that being from a small island, British companies are very good at collaboration.”

The recent announcement of the ‘fintech bridge’ for Australian and UK companies has put extra focus on the opportunities for both countries to work closer together to develop technology business and investment.

The NSW Government also today announced $15,000 support for five NSW fintech and cybersecurity companies to attend a business mission to London.

A CeBIT keynote CEO Panel was held this morning on ‘Planning, preparing and shaping the business of the future’ with Twitter Australia MD Suzy Nicoletti, Yahoo7 CEO Ed Harrison, Google ANZ MD Jason Pellegrino and The Australian CEO Nicholas Gray who provided great insights on how they viewed the current and future business landscape.

Also drawing attentions on the NSW stand this morning was a presentation by Balmain company Design+Industry Pty Ltd which is bridging technology smarts and brilliant engineering design, winning global customers including Titanic director James Cameron and UK celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal.
