Defence NSW is a compact, dedicated team within the Department of Industry. The Defence NSW mission is to execute the NSW Government Defence and Industry Strategy - Strong, Smart and Connected.
NSW Defence and Industry Strategy
The strategy prioritises the defence industry as a key driver of growth and innovation across the state, especially in regional NSW.
Defence NSW is lead by Director, Commodore Peter Scott, CSC, RANR, a highly regarded military officer with a distinguished career of more than 34 years and Defence Advocate Air Marshal (Ret) John Harvey AM, whose career has spanned 30 years.
Land Forces 2018
The NSW Government is seeking applications from NSW defence-related businesses to be part of our Defence NSW stand at Land Forces 2018.
How we support industry
We can assist industry by coordinating relationships between governments and the implementation of a whole-of-government approach
For every $1 billion recurrent Defence operational spending (non-capital) that comes into NSW, the estimated economic impact is approximately $1.4 billion in Gross State Product (GSP) and 10,000 jobs supported.
Industry strengths and capabilities
NSW offers Australia’s largest and most diverse economy and is recognised as a leader in manufacturing, logistics, electronics, information and communication technology (ICT), business services and other areas relevant to Defence needs and global defence markets.
Western Sydney Aerospace & Defence Industries Precinct
The NSW Department of Industry is developing the Western Sydney Aerospace and Defence Industries Precinct, a world-class aerospace and defence industries hub, adjacent to the future Western Sydney Airport.
