Slasherteck is an Australian manufacturer that has set out to revolutionise roadside maintenance and traffic management. Slasherteck achieves this through Australian innovation, using patented and patent-pending technologies in Australian-designed and built machinery to increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve work health and safety outcomes. Slasherteck was the recipient of the Institute of Public Works Engineers Australasia’s (Civenex) Most Innovative Product Award 2015 and the Best Environmental Product Award 2016.
TechConnect is a unique incubator program for small to medium-sized businesses with a ‘startup’ ambition. The program connects businesses to world-class researchers and facilities at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Arludo’s mission is to empower teachers. Arludo creates interactive and engaging STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) games that make learning exciting. To better understand how students are thinking about problems, teachers can view the decisions students make while playing. Arludo’s fundamental objective it to become a global leader in applying creative technology to improve learning experiences, student engagement, and teacher productivity.

Dermaspec Pty Ltd was incorporated in 2016 with a mission to provide doctors with scientific-grade image capture capabilities for assessing temporal changes in skin lesions. The strength of the company is its ability to provide a unique colour calibration that minimises variability introduced by the instrument. This gives the clinician better means of assessing the true changes in the lesion and helps early detection of melanoma.
InfoCare is Australia’s first care comparison website. It provides extensive information on home care, disability and allied health providers throughout Australia. InfoCare is also an online marketing platform enabling providers to promote their services by adding detailed information on services they offer and fees they charge.
Niftie designs, deploys and manages direct, executive transport for government and private-sector clients. Niftie improves staff retention through better commuting outcomes.
Obelisk Systems is an Australian education company working with institutions, schools and teachers to develop STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) education platforms for the modern, rapidly evolving world. Obelisk’s flagship product, StarLAB, is a coding, hardware and robotics platform for schools. StarLAB’s online environment gives teachers videos, quizzes, complete lessons and plans that map to the New South Wales Education Standards Authority-approved iSTEM curriculum.
Perx is a patient-centric smartphone app that uses gamification and rewards to motivate people to stick to their medication. Perx partners with various healthcare stakeholders to deliver this solution to end-users. Perx’s vision is to create a platform that enables the healthcare system to better engage with patients and motivate them to achieve better health outcomes; improves healthcare service delivery; and creates real value for Perx’s partners.
Spot is a female-co-founded tech startup set to revolutionise the way smart cities manage their parking assets, and how customers find a parking spot. The parking industry in the US alone is worth US$25 billion—and that is for paid spots. Better management of parking is high on the smart city agenda across the world.
