Visitor Economy Industry Action Plan
The NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events has launched a mid-term review of the Visitor Economy Industry Action Plan, the blueprint for NSW’s Visitor Economy.
In 2012, the NSW Government released the Visitor Economy Industry Action Plan, providing strategies and actions to achieve the NSW Government’s goal of doubling overnight visitor expenditure by 2020.
The plan outlines a whole-of-government approach in partnership with industry to achieve this target, and is a response to the Final report of the Visitor Economy Taskforce [3.8 MB].
From March 2011 to March 2017, NSW has seen a 24.3% increase in overnight visitor numbers, a 28.2% increase in visitor nights and a 37.3% increase in overnight visitor expenditure.
To ensure the government’s priorities and actions deliver results in the three years remaining to the 2020 target, the NSW Government has established an industry-led Visitor Economy Taskforce to conduct a mid-term review of the plan.
Register to attend a consultation session
The taskforce will undertake extensive stakeholder engagement and consultation online and across NSW with key stakeholders. In early 2018 it will deliver an independent report on the visitor economy position to 2020 and beyond. If you are interested in attending one of our consultations, please register an expression of interest. Your attendance and further details will be confirmed prior to the event.
The taskforce will be utilising the destination networks to ensure the stakeholders are brought together and have the opportunity to input into the review.

Visitor accommodation demand and supply
The NSW Government has undertaken visitor accommodation demand and supply studies into the current and forecast situation of visitor accommodation for Greater Sydney, the Hunter and the Northern Rivers regions.
The studies aim to inform industry, investors and government decision-making to support the sustainable growth of the NSW visitor economy.
They contain up-to-date analysis of visitor demand, accommodation supply and industries' economic returns by sub-region and accommodation type.
The studies are an action of the Visitor Economy Industry Action Plan and a priority of the NSW Economic Development Framework.
