Two NSW wine regions selected for Wine Australia’s Regional Heroes Partnership Program

9 May 2011

The Hunter and Orange wine regions have been selected to participate in Wine Australia’s Regional Heroes Partnership Program which gives local winemakers the opportunity to be showcased to wine industry professionals from Australia’s key international markets.

The Office of Trade, Business & Industry is supporting the participation of the Orange Regional Vignerons Association and the Hunter Valley Wine Industry Association in the program.

As part of their participation in the Regional Heroes program the Hunter and Orange wine regions hosted a group of sommeliers from North America at the beginning of May to taste local wines and meet the winemakers. The sommeliers were in Australia for Wine Australia’s “A+ Australian wine” promotion which is part of its Sommelier Immersion Program.

This annual program in North America was developed by Wine Australia USA and Canada to influence the highly educated wine “gatekeepers” in the North American markets. The program includes seminars and tastings across North America with top-performing participants then selected to visit Australia for the “A+ Australian wine” promotion.

Participation in the Regional Heroes program also allowed the Orange and Hunter wines regions the opportunity to host a small group of wine trade representatives from China in April as part of Wine Australia’s Vintage 2011 promotion.

In August a group of sommeliers from the UK and Ireland will also visit Orange and the Hunter.

The Office of Trade, Business & Industry is supporting this initiative through its Enterprising Regions Program.
