Leichhardt company aussieBum has been judged among the nation’s best exporters at the 2017 55th Australian Export Awards.

The men’s underwear and swimwear manufacturer picked up the E-Commerce award at the national awards in Canberra after winning the state award at the Premier’s NSW Export Awards in October.

Founded in 2001 by Sean Ashby, aussieBum's sales channels include a custom-built e-commerce website for consumers as well as a business-to-business platform for premium department stores around the world including Selfridges & Co in London.

Over the past 16 years, aussieBum has experienced strong growth in emerging markets, particularly in South East Asia and South Korea, with 2017 providing many milestone moments.

The company has significantly increased its local manufacturing capability producing over 1 million garments in Sydney's inner west.

The brand has shifted its reputation as a niche boutique apparel brand to a brand that produces a quality made garment at a price that competes successfully against multinational men's underwear brands.

The proof is sales exceeding $1 million dollars within a 72 hour trading period, resulting in over 20,000 international orders over a single weekend.

This was achieved by remodelling the company’s back end infrastructure and continuing to produce world class marketing campaigns.

Another highlight for the year was developing the world's first 24 carat gold men's underwear that resulted in worldwide media attention.

Also achieving accolades at the Australian Export Awards was NEC Australia which picked up an Investment Award for opening a corporate office at the University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus and creating 180 new ICT jobs in regional NSW.
