On 12 April 2017, the government released  the NSW Coastal Dredging Strategy which identifies the funding arrangements that will support delivery of navigational dredging projects to improve the accessibility and safety of our coastal waterways in regional NSW.

The strategy aligns with the government’s vision of a strong and diverse NSW economy and  contributes to increasing the capacity of primary industries and communities to drive economic growth in particular across regional NSW.

Rescuing Our Waterways funding program

One of the strategy’s funding programs, Rescuing our Waterways, will see $8 million invested into regional coast NSW, with $6 million for the program and $2 million for priority regional location projects.

Rescuing our Waterways will deliver enhanced recreational boating access and continued viability for commercial vessel operators and their support industries, while providing flow on benefits for tourism and local economies. Through the program the NSW Government, local councils and communities will work together over the next four years to improve the health and accessibility of the state’s vital waterways.

Funding available

Through the Rescuing Our Waterways program coastal councils can apply for funding of up to $1.5 million for dredging projects in 2017/18, with the government providing up to 50% of the project’s costs for successful grant applicants.
