NSW companies roll out smarts at CeBIT Australia

Business activity at CeBIT Australia, the Asia Pacific’s largest technology exhibition, continued to build this afternoon as exhibitors reached the midway point of the three day event.
About 300 exhibitors and 15,000 people are taking part in CeBIT creating a technology marketplace like no other.
A series of technology presentations took place on the NSW stand this afternoon including by Sydney cybersecurity company Covata Pty Ltd which is building a global market focus with offices in the UK, Europe and the United States.
Covata provides data management and security solutions to help businesses and governments discover, classify, archive, protect, and control sensitive information.
“Our range of solutions all sit within the Covata ‘Data Security Platform’ which allows clients to select the products they need,” Covata Chief Commercial Officer Derek Brown said.
“Combining multiple technologies greatly reduces the impacts of a data breach, but also decreases operational costs and improves information governance, as you’re not using a large range of solutions that don’t talk to each other.”
Data Republic, a Sydney startup backed by Westpac, Qantas Loyalty, NAB, Qualgro and ANZ, has developed a data sharing governance platform and marketplace where organisations can safely share data, without risking consumer privacy or data security.
“Our Senate Platform delivers an all-in-one solution for organisations to govern the flow of data in and out of their organisation, as well as manage shared analytics projects in the cloud, while retaining full control of data visibility, permitted use and licensing,” digital marketing manager Emily Goldenstein said.
North Sydney company Assignar Pty Ltd is bringing a technology revolution to the way the construction and engineering industry manages its workforce.
Its end-to-end management platform covers scheduling, document control, compliance, asset and workforce management, field coordination and communication, invoicing, payroll and reporting.
“The platform allows companies to get better visibility and management of their mobile workforces and equipment to help reduce time delays, cost overruns, and accidents,” Founder and CEO Sean McCreanor said.
Eveleigh-based FluroSat, which has been assisted by the NSW Government-backed Jobs for NSW, uses hyperspectral cameras onboard drones or satellites and sophisticated analysis to estimate farm crop performance and diagnose crop stress.
“This allows crop problems to be treated efficiently to improve yields and reduce input costs like fertiliser, pesticides and water,” CEO Emma de Haas says.
Also assisted by Jobs for NSW was BenchVote of Homebush, which has created an online suite of competitions to help top tier sporting organisations better engage fans at a time when sports fan disengagement is on the increase.
Director Adam Mussa says BenchVote’s helps sports organisations address ‘pain points’ including reaching and engaging large fanbases, boosting revenue and growing their marketing database.
“We act as a specific marketing funnel for our client – first we engage and activate their user base and then we get them to perform business KPI specific actions such as purchases or marketing opt-ins.”
In one of the afternoon keynotes, Lego’s Global Senior Director of Social Media and Video, Lars Silberbauer, gave a very entertaining presentation on how the 85 year-old brand, which was nearing bankruptcy in 2000, is now setting the bar on how to stay relevant in a disrupted world.
Afternoon sessions were held on the Future of Business; the CeBIT Cloud Conference; the CeBIT E-Government conference; and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
Department of Industry Secretary Simon Draper and Jobs for NSW manager Fiona Rose joined representatives of Telstra, the University of Technology Sydney, the Foundation for Young Australians, JobGette and Buckham and Duffy Consultants for a ‘Future of Jobs’ panel on what jobs of the future will look like and how we adapt, including education systems, to prepare.
Department of Industry Communications and Engagement Executive Director Mark Higgs took part in an eGovernment conference panel discussion on user centred design and delivery of eGovernment and enhancing user experience.
