Minister Blair supports entrepreneurs of tomorrow at CeBIT Australia

Minister for Trade and Industry Niall Blair visited CeBIT on Wednesday afternoon of Wednesday 16 May, where he toured the expo and met with NSW tech companies on the NSW Government stand before addressing exhibitors and visitors at a networking event.

Mr Blair said NSW has always been a strong player when it comes to a range of industries, whether in financial services, medical services or agriculture.

'At CeBIT we get to see those traditional markets going into new places, whether it’s in fintech, cybersecurity or agritech – the innovation of tomorrow that's starting today is all on show here and that's why as a Government we are happy to get behind it.'

Mr Blair said the NSW Government wants to ensure sure NSW technology talent is supported while also attracting businesses from overseas.

'As a Government, we’re committed to being a global player for the industries we represent.'

NSW is home to 44% of Australia’s startup founders. Of these, 38% are in the fintech, blockchain, cyber security and advanced manufacturing sectors. Sydney is right at the heart of this startup activity.

'NSW is the innovation capital of Australia, and we will continue to support the entrepreneurs of today and tomorrow - particularly with the Jobs for NSW Sydney Startup Hub,' Mr Blair said.

'In February, the NSW Government funded Sydney Startup Hub opened its doors, with Microsoft announcing it will run its world-renowned accelerator program for technology startups from the space.'

Located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, the Sydney Startup Hub is the largest in the southern hemisphere and the first of its kind in Australia, with around 2,500 residents spread across 11 floors, plus thousands more checking in via community and event spaces, collaborative workspaces and a Regional Landing Pad. Cornerstone tenants include Stone & Chalk (fintech), Tank Stream Labs (tech), Fishburners (tech), and The Studio (creative services).
