Join the NSW delegation and apply for funding

BIO is the world’s largest gathering of global biotechnology (biotech) and pharmaceutical businesses, researchers, government representatives and related organisations. This is your opportunity to develop international relationships and partnerships to help grow the NSW life sciences and biotech ecosystem.

The NSW Government, through the Department of Industry and NSW Health, is supporting a NSW delegation to the BIO International Convention (BIO 2019) in Philadelphia, USA, 3–6 June 2019.

We invite NSW companies to

  • register to join the NSW delegation supported by NSW Government
  • apply for NSW Government financial support by completing our online form.

The NSW delegation will benefit from:

  • a pre-departure briefing from the NSW Department of Industry and NSW Health to prepare for BIO 2019
  • a NSW Government hosted networking event for delegates and their guests to promote NSW biotech and pharmaceutical market opportunities.

Registration and funding applications are now closed.

We will notify successful applicants by email in the week commencing 15 April 2019.

Funding available

The NSW Government will provide financial support for a limited number of NSW companies to attend and participate in BIO 2019.

Two funding streams are available to support NSW attendance at the conference:

  • Stream 1 – up to A$5,000 for high potential start-ups to support the cost of participation
  • Stream 2 – up to A$1,350 to support registration or upgrade access to the silver package

Eligibility

For funding stream 1, the applicant must:

  • be a startup with up to 20 employees
  • have current connections in NSW (e.g. location of manufacturing jobs, headquarters based in NSW, NSW investment, research labs in NSW)
  • be a legal entity with a presence in NSW and have been in operation for at least one year.

For funding stream 2, the applicant must:

  • be a small to medium-sized enterprise, with an annual turnover of less than A$25 million
  • have current connections in NSW (e.g. location of manufacturing jobs, headquarters based in NSW, NSW investment, research labs in NSW)
  • be a legal entity with a presence in NSW and have been in operation for more than one year.

Confirmation of delegate registration or a silver package is required before receipt of funding. Attach confirmation in Part A of the online application form.

Selection criteria

We will use a competitive selection process to determine funding. Planned activities and objectives should support business and industry growth in NSW. Criteria include:

  • clear and beneficial business objectives
  • target market/sector in line with NSW Government priorities
  • evidence that planned activities are appropriate and will achieve the outlined objectives.

The NSW Government will prioritise funding to startups and scale up businesses in innovative fields such as genomics, digital health, manufacturing, clinical trials, biologics, cell and gene therapies, vaccines and medtech.

Participant obligations

It is a requirement of joining this opportunity that:

  • participants be present at all official networking receptions and briefings organised for the benefit of the convention attendants
  • the company/individual provide NSW Government with a completed survey at its conclusion detailing the results achieved or anticipated as a result of the participation
  • the company agrees for NSW Government to make contact as needed to track outcomes.

  • 4 June – NSW delegation networking event; time and venue to be confirmed
  • 3–6 June – BIO 2019, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia, USA.
