Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward MP today joined 12 NSW defence companies and organisations at the Land Forces 2018 expo at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

'I’m thrilled at the opportunity to be here as the NSW Government’s representative to meet with these great ambassadors of our state’s defence industry as they showcase their capabilities in the land domain,' Mr Ward said.

'From the latest in live fire target systems, to the next generation of the ADF in-service assault rifle and a cutting edge targeting and sighting device that can be used in armoured vehicles worldwide, it’s clear NSW is at the forefront in delivering smart capabilities relevant to the Army and Defence.'

Taking place over three days from 4-6 September, Land Forces is the third biennial international industry expo to showcase equipment, technology and services for the armies of Australia and the Indo-Asia-Pacific.

Defence businesses from regions including the Hunter, Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Murray-Riverina, North Coast and Capital Regions are being supported by Defence NSW to showcase their products, technologies, services and capabilities to global supply chains.

Mr Ward said there were impressive defence industry capabilities of the Shoalhaven and Illawarra region represented.

'Global Defence Solutions are a leading provider of shelter and tent systems, air conditioning and power generation systems that support the ADF. Here at Land Forces they’ve launched their new EASi deployable intermodal container, a great example of the type of smart equipment the region can deliver,' Mr Ward said.

'Advantage Wollongong are also here promoting a host of highly capable Illawarra companies specialising in armoured steel plate, military grade communications systems, base safety systems, high-end welding and engineering, and rugged medical computing devices.'

NSW Defence Advocate Air Marshal (Retd.) John Harvey AM said showcasing what NSW can do at the Land Forces expo is just one way the NSW Government is putting its best foot forward to help build its defence industry.

'NSW companies have leading strengths in advanced manufacturing, systems integration and many other areas relevant to Defence,' Mr Harvey said.

'This gives us a competitive edge to bid for work on major defence acquisition and sustainment projects.'
