Lucy Simpson is an Indigenous designer who is passionate about all avenues and elements of design. Her company, Gaawaa Miyay Designs, provides design solutions in both graphics and textiles.

As a Yuwaalaraay woman of the Walgett and Angeldool area Lucy draws inspiration from family, identity and country. She expresses these aspects of identity through contemporary Indigenous design.

Lucy has worked with organisations such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Nura Gili Indigenous Programs at UNSW, Music NSW, NSW Reconciliation Council, Koori Radio, Gadigal Music, Redfern Community Centre and more recently with Taronga Zoo and Marrickville Council in the areas of public signage and print media.

Her passion for design led to her studies at the College of Fine Arts (COFA) where she studied a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Graphics and Textiles.

Lucy says of her work; “I have a real passion for design, and through my work and studies I have been able to explore expression of culture, country and identity through design (in particular graphics and textiles) in a contemporary context.” 2011 marks an exciting time for Lucy and her business Gaawaa Miyay Designs in the release of her product range independently and in collaboration with full line (including cushions, lampshades, accessories, fashion and stationary) set for release in 2012.
