Blak Markets is a monthly market held on Bare Island, La Perouse, the first Sunday of the month featuring Aboriginal arts, craft, food and workshops and tours.

This series of markets, workshops and tours is being run by First Hand Solutions Aboriginal Corporation to raise money for its Aboriginal community programs for youth at risk.

There’s two ways you can join us to launch First Hand markets, tours and workshops on first Sunday of every month. Pay a $2 entry fee onto the Island and come along and enjoy our Blak Markets and bush tucker food or a cup of good coffee.

Or you can immerse yourself in learning in one of our spear-making or shellwork workshops which are practically based but include stories and time for real conversations with Aboriginal people. Or for $25 you can do an hour and a half bush-tucker walk which includes a talk about Aboriginal history past and present and artefacts.

Entry price onto Bare Island, which is usually only open for tours, is $2.
The markets are all about re-capturing the La Perouse of yesteryears where thousands of people would flock to the Loop at La Perouse for an Aboriginal experience. We are thrilled to have Laddie Timbery at this market place. Laddie’s family have sold artefacts on the Loop at La Perouse for 188 years. Also shell-workers Esme Timbery and Marilyn Russel.
