Ashley is an Aboriginal Australian from the western-NSW community of Brewarrina, a descendent of the Gamilaroi people. After a successful career in rugby league with the Newcastle Knights, he has focused on making a difference for Aboriginal people.
Formerly a high school teacher then becoming a Gambling counsellor for 7 years and now a fulltime Aboriginal Gambling Consultant. Ashley is a Researcher with Southern Cross University completing a variety of Aboriginal Gambling specific research projects. Ashley has vast experience in gambling that are focused on community education and in program design, development and delivery for Indigenous peoples and communities. Aboriginal Gambling is his passion where he has delivered courses to more than 150 communities around Australia.
He has been appointed to the federal Ministerial Expert Advisory Group on Gambling and Board member of the Australian Gambling Research Council.

As a consultant, Ashley has a long-term objective to be involved in the ongoing development and implementation of policies and programs that improve the well-being of Aboriginal people. He has provided various cultural awareness training to a variety of services in NSW and Queensland. He currently manages the NSW Aboriginal Safe Gambling Services.
