NSW Parliament tastes State's quality produce
20 March 2014
Eight NSW food companies poised to tap into export growth opportunities in South East Asia showcased their products at an event held at NSW Parliament House on 18 March 2014.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Stoner and a number of his parliamentary colleagues met with the companies who from April 8-11 will be showcasing their products in one of Singapore's leading supermarket chains.
A strategic collaboration with Cold Storage, a major supermarket chain with more than 55 stores across Singapore, was secured as a result of the NSW Government's South East Asian trade mission last October.
Next month's NSW-focused in-store promotion will provide the eight NSW food producers with direct access to consumers in a major export market.
The initiative presents a great opportunity for the companies to display their products and potentially gain shelf space in Cold Storage supermarkets on a permanent basis.
Mr Stoner said the NSW Government is committed to providing opportunities for NSW producers to market their high quality food internationally and take advantage of the surging demand coming out of Asia for their products.
"South East Asia has a large and fast-growing consumer market which represents a strong opportunity for NSW growers and producers to win new export business," Mr Stoner said.
"Singapore in particular is an excellent market for NSW food companies. It has well established distribution channels and transport infrastructure, is English speaking and imports approximately 90 per cent of its food requirements.
"There is a rising demand for quality and varied food in countries like Singapore and with our State's international reputation for safe, fresh, abundant produce, NSW agrifood producers and processors are well placed to meet this demand."
