Business grows through strong digital strategy
Najib Lawand was working in an executive role for a federal agency that helped businesses export goods. Using this experience, Najib wanted to build his own exporting business. Najib understood the risk he was taking, especially when it came to money.
‘Being a startup, money is everything and you need to be incredibly smart when deciding what to do with it. I had the idea but had no technology background so finding someone who did was imperative,’ Najib said.
Najib spoke to Business Connect digital specialist, Dinesh De Silva, who had been recommended by the head of innovation at one of the big banks. While Najib knew what he wanted, he also had questions and doubts about starting on his own and which path to take. By the end of his first meeting with the digital specialist, Najib could focus on a clear direction and understand what areas had priority.
‘Business Connect was so important to me because the business had no digital capability or knowledge. What I liked about Business Connect was that it allowed us to identify an expert we could work with,’ Najib said.
‘Instead of just working on one element, we created a business strategy alongside our digital strategy. Dinesh has an incredible corporate strategy background—which was enormous for us—and probably accelerated our business growth by a further six months.’
Najib attended more advisory sessions and launched his business Export Connect. Within two months of the first meeting, the business presented a professional digital presence and in the last six months has gone on to build a strong brand and business. Najib has also now hired another full- time employee and has several part-time contractors. More importantly, sales from customers and the strong sales prospects have exceeded Najib’s initial expectations.
