Meet the advocate for small business
The Commissioner is a strong voice for small business in NSW and speaks to government about small business issues as well as running number of programs to assist small businesses throughout the state.
Under the legislation, the Small Business Commissioner can:
- investigate allegations of unfair treatment or unfair contracts
- require local councils, state government bodies and other businesses to provide information or answer questions when a complaint is made
- insist parties attend mediation before starting more expensive and time-consuming court battles, whether those parties are businesses (small and large) or government departments
- report directly to Parliament where there is an issue of real importance to small businesses.
