Western Sydney Strategic Business Matching Event
16 November 2017
The capabilities of Western Sydney small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) were matched to contract opportunities in a special business workshop at Parramatta on 16 November.
The NSW Department of Industry partnered with Western Sydney Business Connection and the Industry Capability Network to deliver the workshop from 9am to 2pm at the Parkroyal in Parramatta.
The Western Sydney Strategic Business Matching Event aimed to help businesses win contract work by matching their skills and capabilities to major potential buyers who are currently in the market looking for goods and services.
Thirty nine SMEs registered to attend the event from a range of industries in a bid to be matched to project opportunities, as well as 16 companies and organisations who were looking for suppliers.
Participating SMEs had up to five 20 minute meetings with potential buyers to pitch their capabilities in a bid to win future work.
Western Sydney Business Connection General Manager Amanda Brisot said the event was part of a ‘Winning Business’ series of events for SMEs and followed a workshop on contract procurement skills at Parramatta on 24 October.
“Helping SMEs in Western Sydney win more work will strengthen the local economy by fuelling new employment and job opportunities,” Ms Brisot said.
“Through the series we hope to demystify the supply chain and help local companies understand that winning business as part of major infrastructure projects, such as North Connex, is not just for big end of town. There are also opportunities for SMEs.”
Companies and organisations that participated in the matching event and looking for suppliers included Campbelltown City Council, City of Parramatta Council, Featherdale, John Holland, Laing O'Rourke, Lend Lease Construction & Engineering, Lend Lease Property, North Connex, Thales, Transdev, Transport for NSW, Sydney Zoo, TAFE, the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils Ltd (WSROC), and Catholic Education, Diocese of Parramatta.
