Traditional sounds of Vietnam reach Australia
Minh Ha has always been passionate about traditional Vietnamese music. After graduating from the Ho Chi Minh Conservatory in Saigon, with a Diploma in Performance, Minh Ha moved to Australia with her husband, James. She continued her love for music and was determined to show the broader Australian community the beauty of traditional Vietnamese music.
Even though Minh Ha already travelled extensively for her musical performances and could see the potential market, she was unsure of how to start her own business.
Through Facebook, Minh Ha found Business Connect and approached Multicultural Advisor Anh-Tuan Nguyen.
Anh-Tuan guided Minh Ha through the process of setting up a business in Australia, which included choosing the right legal structure, applying for an ABN and registering a business name for the band that highlighted Vietnamese bamboo musical instruments in Australia—Viet BambooZ.
Anh-Tuan also assisted Minh Ha with marketing, and together they designed a logo, set up a Facebook business page, identified business goals and network opportunities.
In June 2017, Viet BambooZ was invited to perform at the annual Inspiring Change Women's Conference 2017 in Sydney. The performance was greatly received and has opened up further business opportunities for the band.
Viet BambooZ has become a trusted performer for local councils, multicultural groups and organisations when it comes to traditional cultural performances.
‘For new Vietnamese people living in Australia like me, setting up a business is very hard because we don't have the local knowledge. It is especially hard when we don't speak fluent English,’ Minh Ha said.
‘Anh-Tuan was the key to opening the big door for us to start the new life and new business here in Australia.’
