Skills & Economic Development
The Skills and Economic Development Division focuses on creating the conditions for NSW to prosper. The division collaborates with industry and economic agencies to ensure that the NSW economy continues to grow and that the workforce is suitably skilled to support future economic growth.
The division consists of:
Industry Development focuses on industry engagement and support. As part of its role as a knowledge hub on key and emerging issues across all industry sectors, the branch develops targeted sector policies and leads on the delivery of regional economic policy and migration services.
Industry, Investment and Export Support (II&ES) supports and attracts local and offshore investment to the resource and energy sector. II&ES can help companies with projects to successfully navigate through all areas of Government to facilitate investment and help resolve any issues.
Policy Enablers and Analytics focuses on macro-level policy and levers that enable and drive jobs and economic growth. Skills development is at the core of the branch’s policy and strategy work. The branch leads economic development, working with other government agencies.
Regional Development has a significant regional focus and the Business Connect program has over 60 business advisors across NSW supporting small business.
Trade and Investment works to grow the economy and create jobs across NSW by supporting NSW businesses to export their products and services, and by attracting international investment.
- International Trade works to create an export culture in NSW and support our businesses to export.
- StudyNSW works to grow the number of international students studying in NSW and to improve the student experience.
- International Investments & Markets co-ordinates the whole of government effort to attract international investors to NSW and to promote NSW strengths internationally.
- Our International Network, located in China, Japan, USA, UK, Korea, India, UAE, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, works to provide market intelligence to our businesses and support connections being made between NSW and our priority international markets.
Training Services NSW leads and manages the implementation of funded vocational education and training programs and services across NSW. This includes contracting and funding providers, quality assurance, leading reforms and administering apprenticeships and traineeships and Aboriginal programs. The branch also has a major role in industry and community relations.
