2015 NSW Creative Achievement Awards
The NSW Creative Achievement Awards are a NSW Government initiative to celebrate and reward outstanding achievements that help raise the global profile of NSW Creative Industries.

On 25 May 2015, the Minister for Industry, Resources and Energy announced the winners of the 2015 NSW Creative Achievement Awards.
2015 NSW Creative Laureate
Winner: Saatchi & Saatchi Australia
The independent Judging Panel determined that Saatchi & Saatchi Australia met the selection criteria to an outstanding level. In addition to the creative agency's body of work of sustained distinction, Saatchi & Saatchi Australia demonstrated significant leadership and capability in successfully executing the storybook app 'Penny the Pirate' (created for OPSM). The app is an innovative medical device that is approved to screen children's eyes. The agency demonstrated its positive impact on increasing the global profile of NSW creative industries through its internationally multi-award winning campaigns such as the above-mentioned 'Penny the Pirate' and the 'Unbreakable Drivers' campaign for Toyota Hilux. The agency also supports the development of local talent through sponsorship for the National Art School, investing in training students through the Communications Council and AWARD school programs and support for I-Manifest, a charity providing pathways for youth to pursue creative careers. saatchi.com.au
As the winner of the NSW Creative Laureate, Saatchi and Saatchi Australia is also the 2015 Creative Industries Ambassador for NSW to help further promote NSW as a global creative centre.
Belvoir is one of Australia's most innovative and acclaimed theatre companies. It engages Australia's most prominent and promising playwrights, directors, actors and designers to realise an annual season of work that is dynamic, challenging and visionary. As well as performing at home, Belvoir regularly takes to the road, touring both nationally and internationally. Belvoir's production of 'The Wild Duck' played in London in 2014 to critical acclaim. CHROFI is a multi-award winning architecture and urban design company and has won 8 awards in 2014 alone, including the prestigious category winner at the World Architecture Festival and 2 Australian Institute of Architecture awards. CHROFI was founded after winning the international competition for the re-design of the TKTS booth in Times Square, New York. Completed in 2008, the project received world-wide acclaim with 19 international and national awards, and is cited by New York Magazine as New York's Building of the Decade. chrofi.com
Saatchi & Saatchi Australia
Saatchi & Saatchi Australia has an ambition to be a world-class creative company to achieve success on both a local and international scale for its clients. Their recent Toyota Hilux "Unbreakable Driver" campaign has been awarded Best ad at the One Show Automotive Awards (Detroit) and two GOLD awards at the prestigious AWARD Gala. Their "Penny the Pirate" campaign for OPSM has received over 50 major awards including at international shows such Cannes, London International, Clios (NY), Best in Show at Caples Awards (NY), a Pinnacle Award at the 2014 ADMA Awards, two GOLD APAC Effies and Grand Prix for Campaign of the Year at the Festival of Media Global awards in Rome. Sydney Film Festival
The Sydney Film Festival (SFF) is one of the world's longest-running film festivals, and is a major event on the NSW cultural calendar. The 2014 SFF welcomed over 156,000 people to screenings, events and talks, over its 12 days. The SFF screened all around Sydney and expanded into Sydney's western suburbs for the first time. The festival presented 192 films from 48 countries in 57 languages, including 15 world premieres. Over 150 Australian and international filmmakers attended SFF 2014. This prestigious list included guests from 13 countries who attended over 85 talks and Question and Answer sessions hosted by filmmakers, writers, actors and industry guests across six venues over 12 days. sff.org.au
Sydney Symphony Orchestra
Resident at the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is an orchestra of world-standing, performing more than 200 concerts a year to a combined annual audience of more than 300,000. Under the baton of its Chief Conductor and Artistic Director David Robertson, the SSO undertook its third and largest tour of China in 2014 – performing eight concerts in seven cities across 12 days including a sold-out concert in Beijing and debut performances in the cities Jinan, Hangzhou and Shenzhen. The performances attracted extensive local and international media coverage. Championing new Australian music, the SSO commissioned Sydney-based composer Andrew Schultz to write a new work to premiere for Chinese audiences. sydneysymphony.com
The Monkeys create provocative ideas that live within advertising, entertainment and technology. They have been called an ad agency, a creative collective, a branded content company, the business model of the future and a bunch of bloody dreamers. Truth is they're a bit of each. Their work has been awarded both here and internationally at Cannes Lions, D&AD, One Show, Webby Awards, AACTA (Australian Academy Cinema Television Arts) and the Logies. They have also been named Australian Agency of the Year multiple times and in 2014 they were named B&T Independent Agency of the Year and APG Strategic Agency of the Year. 2015 NSW Emerging Creative Talent Award
Winner: Shaun Parker & Company
The independent Judging Panel determined that Shaun Parker & Company met the selection criteria to an outstanding level. The Judges acknowledged that while Shaun Parker the individual has been in the dance industry for some years, they agreed that his four year old company is separately recognised as an emerging organisation of high achievement. The company demonstrated that it is inventive and has a particularly strong national and international touring program and presence for such a young organisation. The company has been recognised by the industry in several nominations or awards for excellence and has received reviews to critical acclaim, particularly for the company's ingenuity and audience reach. The Panel commended the company for its leadership in successfully engaging in creative and innovative ways with young dancers. Daniel Askill is an Australian filmmaker and visual artist. The New York Times describes his work as "visually stunning". His Grammy nominated video with Sia for Chandelier has been watched over half a billion times on line. In 2001 he co-found multidisciplinary studio COLLIDER which produced his multi-award winning short film 'We Have Decided Not to Die'. Daniel's work as an artist has been showcased at venues including Palais De Tokyo Paris, Institute of Contemporary Arts London and the Venice Biennale. He has directed Music Videos for artists such as Paul McCartney, U.N.K.L.E, Sia, Placebo, Digitalism, These New Puritans & Phoenix, in addition to global campaigns and fashion films for brands including Cadillac, Dior, Smirnoff, XBox, Sony, Mercedes & Alexander McQueen.
Entropico is a creative production collective that makes music videos, branded film content and produces parties. Recognised as "vibrant, young, smart and full of talent" by the likes of Campaign Brief, B&T and Little Black Book , Entropico has gained a strong reputation for its work for leading local and international brands and artists. Their work is technically experimental, and they create shareable concept-driven content for the digital era. Entropico is partnered with international award-winning and Sydney-based production house Plaza, and represents a large network of emerging NSW creatives from a host of film-focused disciplines. Last week, leading Australian music site inthemix called Entropico's clip for The Meeting Tree "the best music video of 2015."
Future Perfect Magazine
Future Perfect is a new independent current affairs magazine that features longform writing on global affairs, opinion, interviews, reviews, photospreads and more. Based in Sydney, the first issue was launched in mid-2014 and already has a significant reach domestically and internationally. It has a network of 51 boutique stockists across Australia and the world (11 countries). Future Perfect has developed an innovative advertising model showcasing a select list of creative businesses in a fixed black section in the centre of the magazine. More partner than advertiser, these brands are grafted onto the production and marketing of an entire issue, allowing them to leverage the Future Perfect brand to elevate their own. futureperfect.today
Golden Age Cinema & Bar
Since opening in 2013, Golden Age Cinema and Bar has re-imagined the movie-going experience, with creative venue design, imaginative programming, quality hospitality, and engaging marketing that has seen the business establish a cult following. Golden Age has been awarded Best New Arts Program by FBI Radio and shortlisted for a national architecture award for best Creative Adaptation of a Heritage Building. The cinema and bar has become a key destination for events and industry screenings for leading businesses. John O'Callaghan is an urban planner and director of 'JOC Consulting' specialising in community, place and technology. He is the founder of 'Trending City', a collaborative blogging platform exploring urban trends, and co-founder of 'Idea Bombing Sydney', a creative meetup focused on supporting, highlighting and contributing to Sydney's creative life. John is also a board member at Brand X and a regular contributor to the Planning Institute of Australia's 'New Planner' magazine. In 2014, John was awarded the Urban Provocateur award by DARCH and was recognised as an AMP Tomorrow Maker by the AMP Tomorrow Fund. john-ocal.com/
Matilda has worked with some of Australia's most established directors and producers on projects including 'Underbelly' (2009), 'Rake', 'Offspring', 'Beesting' (2010), 'Cockatoo' (2011), 'The People Speak', 'IMOM' (2013) and 'Pull' (2014). She won best actress awards from international film festivals for her roles in 'Martha's New Coat', 'Cockatoo' and best film for her short film 'Am I OK'. Two of Matilda's films 'How God Works' and 'One Thing' were selected for Tropfest and her latest project 'Lessons from the Grave', a television series she wrote, directed, produced and starred in, aired on ABC 1 in 2013 (series one) and 2014 (series two) and screened on Qantas in-flight entertainment.
Natalie Dietz is a Sydney based jazz vocalist and composer and has received acclaim, both locally and in the US. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Voice Performance) in 2012 from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, she has toured around Australia and New Zealand. In 2014 she was one of eight Australian composers selected nationwide for a competitive jazz composers workshop in Western Australia. In 2014 she was one of three jazz artists selected internationally to be offered a merit scholarship to the elite jazz vocal Masters program at New England Conservatory, Boston USA. nataliedietz.com
Nick Hunter & Seaton Kay-Smith – Paper Moose
Nick Hunter (actor/director) & Seaton Kay-Smith (comedian/writer) are co-founders (along with others) of Paper Moose. Formed in 2011, Paper Moose is a boutique film and design collective based in Sydney. Founded with the intention of creating a sustainable way of making creative content and supporting emerging talent, Paper Moose and Nick and Seaton's films/comedies have screened in festivals both nationally and internationally. They created 'Nick and Seaton' a sketch comedy web series (episodes have screened at Rottofest, Holly Web, TedX and the series was a quarter finalist in the NexTV Competition). Their most recent short film, 'Float', won Best Comedy at the Sydney Underground Film Festival, and was selected for Iron Mule Film Festival's Best of 2014, IndieFest USA and Rottofest in WA. They are currently in development for a brand new Australian television series.
Shaun Parker & Company
Shaun Parker & Company is a dance company whose work takes place on the stages of major international festivals as well as throughout Australia. The company prides itself on having created new robust touring models which promote NSW as a key player within the creative industries. In the four years that the company has been in operation, it has been recognised as being innovative and arresting, and nominated for a variety of prestigious awards including the Australian Dance Award, Argus Angel Award at Brighton Festival in the UK, a nomination for two Green Room Awards and two Helpmann Awards. shaunparkercompany.com
The Explainers Productions Pty Ltd
The Explainers is a digital communications studio focused on explainer videos, infographics, and content strategy. The VizbiPlus project creates scientifically accurate 3D molecular animations that inspire and engage the general public. The project has delivered a series of exemplary videos and live events that make cutting-edge biomedical research accessible and exciting; it also features an art competition designed to engage the creative community. About the Awards
There are two categories under the Awards program:
- The prestigious NSW Creative Laureate recognises an individual, team or organisation that has demonstrated significant leadership and made a significant contribution to increasing the global profile of NSW Creative Industries. The Award celebrates the very best of the State's creative talent.
- The NSW Emerging Creative Talent award recognises an individual, team or organisation considered emerging in their sector and where they have demonstrated leadership in originality and innovation, and contributed to raising the global profile of NSW Creative Industries. This Award offers support for future development with a cash prize of $15,000.

The NSW Government responded to the industries' recommendation within the NSW Creative Industries Action Plan to help raise the global profile of NSW Creative Industries by recognising, promoting and showcasing excellence through seeding the establishment of these awards.
