Energy
Energy is any source of usable power, and includes electricity, gas and petroleum.
Society depends on energy for our transport, operation of hospitals, storage of food supplies, financial transactions, communications, social activities, business operations and virtually all other everyday requirements.
New South Wales is the largest consumer of energy in Australia. With increasing concerns over climate change, managing energy supply to meet growing demand levels while at the same time reducing the environmental impacts associated with energy use represents one of the most significant challenges for government, business and the community.
Through consultation and policy development, Industry & Investment NSW is focused on helping determine how New South Wales:
- generates its energy
- can distribute safe, sufficient, reliable and cost-competitive energy to consumers
- can have a significant role in the growing national energy market
- can encourage private investment in New South Wales
- can support, regulate and monitor the New South Wales energy industry.
The Department has strong relationships with the Commonwealth Government, other state and territory governments, energy industry participants and the community.
