Sydney symposium to address student accommodation

22 June 2015

Student Accommodation

The NSW Government has welcomed a symposium on international student accommodation to be held in Sydney this Friday, 26 June.

International Education Association of Australia's (IEAA) International Student Accommodation Symposium will bring together students, educators, accommodation providers and Government to seek effective accommodation solutions.

Developing long-term solutions

Australia consistently ranks as one of the world's most popular destinations for international students, and NSW is Australia's leading international student destination.

The need for additional affordable student housing has been identified as one of the three most important issues for overseas students studying here.

The symposium will feature a range of expert speakers and is designed to bring together stakeholders to develop long-term solutions to accommodation needs.

It also represents an opportunity for forward-thinking property developers, given the potential of the student accommodation market..

Supporting our education sector

In 2014, there were just over 219,000 international student enrolments in NSW – an increase of almost 12 per cent compared to 2013.

Not only do international students enrich NSW communities, the international education sector is an important contributor to the State economy, valued at about $5.8 billion a year.

The NSW Government's StudyNSW is partnering with the IEAA to deliver the national symposium. StudyNSW is responsible for delivering the Government's 10-year international education strategy.
