NSW Trade and Investment client wins ABC TV’s Invention of the Year
18 August 2011
Congratulations to Edward Evans, a farmer from Inverell and NSW Trade & Investment client, who won the 2011 Invention of the Year award on ABC TV's Inventors program last night.
Mr Evans won for his Swing Gate invention which minimises the risk of injury when livestock charge or attack a gate within the confined space of a cattle yard or cattle truck.
The gate has a hinge that allows a struck or charged gate to bend, preventing gate operators from being struck by the full force of the impact. It can also be simply retrofitted in existing cattle yards and gates, ensuring an increase in safety for both operators and livestock. Mr Evans said he has tested the gate nearly 4,000 times so far at trade shows and demonstrations and has never been hit.
NSW Trade and Investment helped Mr Evans to participate in trade shows, with online marketing and promotional materials, networking and export advice. The Department also introduced Mr Evans to other regional clients for a project to build and improve prototypes of the gate.
