NSW supports development of rail technology plan
20 June 2011
The NSW Government will support development of a national rail technology plan to help strategically position the rail manufacturing industry for the future.
The National Rail Technology Roadmap is a joint initiative between the Commonwealth Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR) and the State governments of NSW, Victoria and Queensland, together with the Australasian Railway Association.
“The National Rail Technology Roadmap will examine technology developments in the rail industry globally to plan and help our manufacturing industry grow into the future,” Deputy Premier and Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Stoner said.
“The roadmap project will study and map the Australian rail industry’s technology and manufacturing capabilities and development opportunities, and cultivate high level implementation plans for execution.
“The project will include a shorter term capability map for the rail industry to 2021 that will highlight gaps and opportunities, identify export and import replacement opportunities, and guide investment attraction efforts.
“A longer term innovation roadmap to 2040 will also be developed to identify key strategic opportunities and implementation plans, support investment decisions, and set out means and timelines for implementation.”
The National Rail Technology Roadmap project will receive support from the NSW Government through the Department of Trade and Investment.
