AIIA seminar focuses on how technology is transforming financial services

NSW Trade and Investment hosted a NSW Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) briefing on 29 July focusing on how technology is transforming the financial services industry.

The AIIA has created a Financial Services Network for business executives interested in technology-led innovation in the financial services industry, and is holding a program of events as part of its Financial Services Series.

The AIIA, which is Australia's peak industry body for the technology sector, says technology is playing a crucial role in supporting innovations in the financial services industry, including in customer delivery.

The NSW AIIA Financial Services Breakfast Briefing on 29 July focused on "Customer Led Innovation: Channels, Mobility and Gen Y", and was the third of five financial services-related events scheduled for 2011.

Moderated by Robin Simpson (Gartner CIO Executive Partner), the discussion included panellists Andrew Davies (Program Director, Westpac), Andrew Henderson (CIO, ING Direct), Rod Farmer (Director of Research & Strategy, Mobile Experience), Brett Rolfe (Communications Director, Naked Communications), and Simon Burke (CEO, IPscape).

The panel discussed how technologists can innovate to meet the needs of financial services customers with discussion topics including:

  • Customer demands for social media, mobile payments and multi-channel contact
  • The viable role for traditional financial services in the new customer focused environment; and
  • The struggle for organisations to deliver excellent customer service across existing channels.
